BS10008
British Standard BS10008 - Evidential Weight and Legal Admissibility of Electronic Information
Any organisation that uses electronic records and scans paper records to electronic format needs to be aware of BS10008.
BS10008 addresses the integrity and authenticity of electronic information especially where the information may be used as evidential support in law.
The standard helps address issues relating to electronic identity, scanned paper records, linking of electronic records, and more. The standard can be used and implemented in any organisation, either in part or in whole and the extent of the implementation will depend on the structure and needs of the organisation.
It is critical that when designing and implementing electronic records/document management systems (EDRMS) that the project implements processes and procedures that comply with this standard, if the records are of a type where the organisation may be called upon to substantiate the integrity of the electronic information.
The Information Edge can help in two ways. Firstly, we can work with the project team to review, on an on-going basis, the processes and procedures and their conformance with BS10008. Secondly, we can indpendently verify completed projects providing a statement of compliance with the standard and, where appropriate, provide guidance and recommendations to ensure that compliance is maintained.
